What's Growing at Thunder Gardens in 2026
This is the full list of crops coming to life in our fields this season. Each one is food you would otherwise be buying at the grocery store. You can grow it here, with us, and take it home. No experience necessary. We coordinate everything.
That's over 40 crops spanning vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers, all grown using regenerative, permaculture-informed practices that build soil health and work with the land rather than against it. Our season runs from May 15 through October 15 (or last frost), giving you a full five months of fresh, local harvest.
How It Works: No Experience Needed
You don't need to know the difference between a determinate tomato and an indeterminate one. You don't need tools, a truck, or a trowel. Thunder Gardens operates as a community growing space. We do the planning, the coordinating, and the heavy lifting. You show up, you connect with the land, and you take home real food.
Getting Started Is Simple
- 1 Reach out to us. No prior farming knowledge required, just a willingness to get your hands in the soil.
- 2 We match you to a plot and a growing plan that fits your schedule and your household's needs.
- 3 We coordinate the season: planting calendars, growing guides, and community workdays are all organized for you.
- 4 Harvest time arrives and the food goes home with you.
Think about what it means to grow even a portion of your family's vegetables this season. Tomatoes. Cucumbers. Potatoes. Beans. Herbs for every meal. That is a full pantry taking shape, grown by your own hands, with a community that knows your name.
Something You'd Like to See Here?
We've put a lot of thought into this year's crop list, but Thunder Gardens is a community farm and that means your voice matters. Is there a vegetable, herb, or fruit we haven't listed that you'd love to grow and bring home? A family recipe that needs a specific ingredient? A crop you've always been curious about?
Tell us. We genuinely want to know. Reach out at the link below and let us know what you'd love to see growing in our fields. We can't promise everything (the season, the soil, and Zone 5b Ottawa winters all have opinions) but we read every message, and your suggestions shape what we plan next year.
